Monday Madness: Acceptance

“People get anxious about facts. But the sooner we learn to accept the facts, the sooner we can solve our problems.”

Pause for a moment.

Take a breath in…

Exhale slowly…

Again…

And once more…

Now—arrive fully present.

In today’s environment—politically charged, emotionally heightened, and even impacted by unpredictable seasonal shifts—we are surrounded by noise. Narratives are debated. Facts are questioned. Interpretations are amplified.

And in the midst of it all, many leaders lose clarity.

Here’s the distinction that changes everything:

  • Facts are neutral. They exist whether we agree with them or not.

  • Problems are actionable. They invite ownership, creativity, and solution-focused thinking.

As John C. Maxwell reminds us:

“Problems are things we can do something about; facts are things we cannot.”

Yet, how often do we see energy misallocated—teams spinning on what is, rather than acting on what can be changed?

From a coaching lens, this is where awareness meets agency.

So let’s explore:

  • What facts are you currently resisting or reinterpreting?

  • Where might acceptance create space for more strategic action?

  • How often are you or your team investing energy in things outside your control?

  • What problem—within your influence—are you ready to take ownership of today?

  • How would your leadership shift if you intentionally separated facts from problems in every decision you made?

Acceptance is not passive.

It is a disciplined leadership practice.

It allows you to:

  • Reduce cognitive overload

  • Strengthen emotional regulation

  • Increase decisiveness

  • Model grounded leadership for others

When you stop fighting reality, you reclaim the energy needed to transform it.

Leadership Challenge | Call to Action:

This week, model this with your team:

  1. Name one fact you must accept

  2. Identify one problem you can influence

  3. Take one intentional action forward

*Then invite your team to do the same—and notice what shifts in focus, accountability, and momentum.

Don’t miss the opportunity to lead with clarity.

Be intentional.

Encourage others.

Watch what happens.

Clarity begins where resistance ends.

You’ve got this!
