Monday Madness: What Would Change If You Believed in Yourself?
“The golden opportunity you are seeking is in yourself. It is not in your environment; it is not in luck or chance, or the help of others; it is in yourself alone.”
— Orison Swett Marden
As leaders navigating uncertainty, social tension, organizational complexity, and the invisible weight that the holiday season often brings, the question becomes:
How do these words resonate with who you are—and who you are becoming?
Before you answer, pause with intention:
Deep breath in… exhale slowly. Deep breath in… exhale slowly. Deep breath in… exhale slowly...
Center yourself. Presence creates clarity.
In coaching, we call this pattern interruption—a deliberate shift that allows you to disrupt autopilot thinking and reconnect with your internal compass. ⸻
The Opportunity Is Already Inside You. Life is happening right now, not after things settle down, not after the election cycle cools, and not after holiday demands ease up.
You choose whether you get on the field or remain a spectator.
Iyanla Vanzant offers this reminder:
“If you sit there waiting for something to happen, when it happens over here, you will be sitting there… Everything happens twice. First on the inside, then on the outside.”
This aligns directly with core coaching principles:
Identity drives behavior.
Mindset shapes possibility.
Vision informs action.
So let’s get practical.
Research Insight: Preparing Yourself for Opportunity Dean Bokhari’s Lifehack article, How to Seize Your Opportunities and Take on Challenges, reinforces a foundational point:
Your brain follows the instructions you give it.
What you focus on, you expand.
Here’s what high-performing leaders do—and what you can do today:
1. Develop a Clear Vision Your brain responds to mental imagery as if it’s already happening.
What future are you rehearsing?
Reflection:
What picture are you painting internally that your leadership is beginning to reflect externally?
2. Set Specific, Values-Aligned Goals Define what you want and why you want it. This is intentionality in action—a hallmark of leadership maturity.
Reflection:
What goals would you set if you removed self-doubt from the equation?
3. Take Consistent, Aligned Action Small steps compound. Momentum builds. Progress creates confidence; confidence fuels more progress.
Reflection:
What is one small action you can take in the next 24 hours that your future self will thank you for?
4. Maintain Consistency Every step forward expands your awareness and reveals new opportunities.
Reflection:
What systems or habits would support the version of you you’re becoming? ⸻
Leadership Challenge: What Are You Willing To Do?
Tom Peters said it clearly:
“If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade.”
So I’ll ask you the same questions I ask my executive clients:
What dream are you nurturing internally that you’re finally ready to bring into the world?
What courageous conversation, decision, or boundary could change everything?
How will you model intentionality for the people who follow your lead?
This season may feel heavy. The environment may feel chaotic. But your agency is still intact, and your power is still accessible.
Don’t miss your moment... Be intentional... Encourage others to rise with you... Watch what happens.
