Freedom Friday: Lead With Presence, Not Performance -Know Your WORTH!

“I have yet to find the man, however exalted his station, who did not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of approval than under a spirit of criticism.”— Charles Schwab

Good Day, Leaders!

What if your greatest leadership influence has less to do with how impressive you appear and more to do with how people experience you?

As we carry September’s lessons of TRUST into October’s exploration of WORTH, consider this:

Leadership presence isn’t about commanding attention. It’s about creating connection.

Charisma may capture attention, but authenticity, empathy, and consistency help build trust.

In a world filled with uncertainty, economic pressures, competing priorities, and differing perspectives, people need more than leaders who deliver results. They need leaders who recognize their humanity, respect their contributions, and create space for their voices.

From a coaching perspective, this begins with presence, active listening, curiosity, and cultivating trust and safety — foundational ICF Core Competencies.

When leaders replace unnecessary criticism with constructive feedback, judgment with curiosity, and assumptions with understanding, they create opportunities for greater self-awareness, ownership, and growth.

Remember: Recognizing someone’s worth does not mean lowering expectations. It means honoring their humanity while supporting their potential.

Friday Reflections: Pause. Breathe. Consider.

  • Presence: How do others experience you when you enter a room or conversation?

  • Trust: What might your team feel more comfortable expressing if they knew they would be heard without immediate judgment?

  • Worth: How consistently do your words and actions communicate that people matter beyond their performance?

  • Growth: What could become possible if you approached your next difficult conversation with curiosity rather than criticism?

Your Freedom Friday Leadership Practice

  1. This week, invite a colleague, team member, or trusted partner into an honest conversation.

  2. Ask:

-What is one thing I do that helps you feel heard, respected, and valued

-and what could I do differently?”

  3. Listen without interrupting, explaining, or defending.

  4. Notice what you learn about yourself...

  5. Then identify one intentional shift that could strengthen trust and connection.

Because leadership is not simply about influencing what people do. It’s also about creating the conditions in which people feel empowered to contribute who they are.

As we navigate the final quarter of the year, remember that your worth — and the worth of those you lead — is not defined solely by productivity, position, or performance.

Freedom Friday Reminder:

You don’t have to be the most powerful presence in the room. Be the presence that empowers others to recognize their own power.

Lead with intention. Listen with curiosity. Build trust. Honor WORTH.

Let’s change the game and elevate together!
