Good Day Leaders,
“I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.” — Fannie Lou Hamer
As we enter a new year amid ongoing social, political, and organizational complexity, many high-performing leaders are quietly asking a powerful question:
Do I have a Mental Health Plan—or am I simply reacting to everything around me?
Before you read on, pause with me for a moment:
Take a deep breath in…
Exhale slowly…
Another deep breath in…
Exhale…
One more breath…
Now settle into the present moment...
From a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) perspective, sustainable performance, courageous leadership, and personal freedom is rooted in mental fitness, emotional agility, and intentional self-regulation—not just grit.
Today’s reflection is inspired by Iyanla Vanzant’s Until Today: Daily Devotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind, and reinforced by current thought leadership on mental decluttering and cognitive clarity.
A Coaching Reframe: Mental Health as a Strategic Asset
Just as organizations develop strategic plans, leaders must develop personal mental health strategies—ones that move us from survival to self-mastery.
Consider designing a plan that supports the following dimensions:
1. Mental Health Clarity
Clear your mind of clutter, congestion, and internal conflict.
This is about increasing cognitive bandwidth so you can think expansively, not defensively.
2. Mental Health Refinement
Release unproductive, unessential, and potentially harmful narratives—especially those tied to self-doubt, comparison, or unresolved relational dynamics.
What beliefs are no longer aligned with who you are becoming?
3. Mental Health Freedom
Lay down grudges. Heal emotional residue. Settle old internal accounts.
Freedom begins when emotional labor from the past stops taxing the present.
4. Mental Health Development
Abandon anger. Defy defeat. Forgo fear.
Disrupt guilt. Shatter shame.
This is the work of intentional growth, emotional intelligence, and values-aligned leadership.
Coaching Questions for Reflection & Dialogue
What mental habits are currently driving your decisions—and which ones are draining your energy?
Where might emotional clutter be limiting your leadership effectiveness or personal well-being?
If your mind were an organization, what would need to be restructured, refined, or released this quarter?
How are you modeling mental wellness for your teams, families, and communities?
As Simon Sinek reminds us,
“Honesty and clarity are our allies.”
Clarity is not a luxury—it’s a leadership responsibility.
You don’t need a new year to reset your mind—but you do need a conscious plan.
Mental freedom isn’t found in avoiding the chaos—it’s built by leading yourself through it with clarity, courage, and compassion.
You’ve got this!
