Recommitment & Excellence

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”— Vince Lombardi

As we return to work after the winter break—re-entering fast-moving organizations, competing priorities, and a politically charged environment—this quote invites an important pause.

Excellence, from a coaching lens, is not perfection:

It is intentionality.

It is ownership.

It is the daily practice of aligning who you are with how you show up—especially when conditions are uncertain or uncomfortable.

Before moving forward, pause here:

Take a deep breath in…

Exhale slowly…

Again—inhale… exhale…

One more time—

Now, be present with yourself.

Commitment has a way of revealing resistance. In coaching, we know this as awareness before action. Every meaningful commitment surfaces internal barrierslimiting beliefs, habits, or fears—not to block us, but to be acknowledged, examined, and transformed.

Reflection for leaders and teams:

  • What challenge is being activated for you right now?

  • Where might you be getting in your own way—consciously or unconsciously?

  • What belief or behavior is asking to be upgraded in this next season?

  • How will you intentionally raise your level of commitment—not just to outcomes, but to excellence in the process?

As Anthony Robbins reminds us:

“The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.

Today’s Coaching Challenge:

  1. Recommit—strategically and deliberately.

  2. Stay focused on what you can influence.

  3. If you stumble, recover quickly.

  4. Progress favors persistence.

Ask yourself—and invite others to reflect with you:

  • What are you willing to do differently to lead with integrity and courage?

  • How will you model excellence for those watching you?

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle

Do not miss this opportunity to be intentional. Encourage others to do the same—and observe the ripple effect.

Excellence is not a moment—it is a choice you renew every day.
