WEDNESDAY WISDOM:
Faith in the Next Step

What if the next step is enough?
Good Morning…
In times of uncertainty, it is easy to become consumed by what we cannot control—the headlines, the economy, organizational change, shifting expectations, difficult conversations, or an uncertain tomorrow.
But leadership—and life—often asks something different of us:
Pause. Breathe. Get present. Listen. Discern. Then choose your next step.
Faith can look like trusting your values when circumstances challenge them.
It can look like remaining curious when certainty feels more comfortable.
It can look like having the courage to ask a different question, consider another perspective, or acknowledge that the strategy that worked yesterday may not be the strategy needed today.
And sometimes, faith looks like believing that you are capable of navigating what you cannot yet see.
As coaches, we know that meaningful insight often begins with reflection. The ICF Core Competencies emphasize curiosity, presence, powerful questioning, and facilitating growth—not by prescribing the answer, but by creating space for people to discover what is possible for themselves.
So, before you rush into your next meeting, decision, conversation, or challenge, pause and ask yourself:
For personal reflection:
• What am I being invited to trust right now?
• Where might fear be influencing my thinking, choices, or leadership?
• What do I know to be true—even when I cannot yet see the outcome?
• What is one courageous, values-aligned step I can take today?
For leaders and teams:
• What would change if we replaced “What could go wrong?” with “What might be possible?”
• Where does our team need greater clarity—and where do we simply need the courage to move forward without having all the answers?
• What would it look like to lead with both discernment and hope?
The current leadership environment demands resilience, adaptability, and the capacity to navigate ambiguity. Uncertainty is not always something leaders can simply wait out. Sometimes, it requires us to develop the capacity to move forward while the path is still unfolding.
This week, don’t confuse uncertainty with impossibility.
You may not be able to see the entire staircase.
Take the next step anyway.
You don’t need to see the whole path.
You just need enough faith to take the next step.
