Wednesday Wisdom – From the Heart of a PCC

"Awakening is not a destination—it’s a practice."

"Racism has been for everyone like a horrible, tragic car crash, and we've all been heavily sedated from it. If we don't come into consciousness of this tragedy, there's going to be a violent awakening we don't want. The question is, can we wake up?"— Anna Deavere Smith

As leaders, changemakers, and humans—this question is a call to consciousness, not just individually, but collectively.

Take a moment. Pause. Gently return to your breath:

Inhale deeply... Exhale slowly... Inhale again... Release what no longer serves you...

Let your mind quiet and your heart speak.

Now, read the quote again—and this time, allow it to sit not just in your mind, but in your body.

Ask yourself:

  • What emotions arise?

  • Where do I feel this most—my chest, my stomach, my throat?

  • What part of this message feels urgent… or uncomfortable?

Discomfort is often the beginning of awareness. And awareness is the first step toward transformation.

Today, as I reflected on this message with a heavy yet hopeful heart, I was reminded by a wise friend:

“People respect you not because you’re perfect, but because you’re real.”

Authenticity doesn’t mean always having the right words. It means showing up—present, intentional, open.

This week, the word "Awakening" has been speaking to me. It’s echoed in my coaching sessions, in the books I’m reading, and in the quiet moments of contemplation.

One client described her experience as “an awakening of truth, self-worth, and courage.”

Yes—awakening can be messy, tender, and brave. But it is also the birthplace of unity, healing, and meaningful change.

Reflection Questions for You and Your Teams:

  1. How do I "awaken" to uncomfortable truths in my life and in the world around me?

  2. In what ways can I foster inclusive conversations at home, at work, and in my community?

  3. What practices help me stay grounded and responsive, rather than reactive?

How do YOU wake up—in your body, in your relationships, in your leadership?

 Invitation:

Start this conversation with your team. Use this message as a check-in. Invite a circle of reflection.

The world needs more bridges, fewer walls. More listening, less posturing. More courage, less comfort.

Today’s Affirmation:

Thank you, Universe, for the clarity that discomfort brings. I welcome awareness, and I choose to grow with grace and purpose.

Stay curious... Stay courageous... Stay compassionate...

You are not alone on this journey.

With respect & resilience,

You got this!
