“Racism has been for everyone like a horrible, tragic car crash, and we've all been heavily sedated from it. If we don't come into consciousness of this tragedy, there's going to be a violent awakening we don't want. The question is, can we wake up?”
-Anna Deavere Smith
How does the quote above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
Please grab a piece of paper and something to write with. Kindly reread the quote above... sit with it a moment...
What feelings emerge?
...take time to think about it... jot down the adjectives that come to mind.
Where are these feelings physically manifesting?
...where in your body... your stomach... heart... head...
Question:
How will you awaken?
...Hhhummm
When preparing for this day, my heart was heavy. So much going on in my brain. I was reminded (by a fellow insomniac) “...that’s the beauty of who you are... your authenticity... whether people agree with you or not, they respect you, your truth, they know what they’re getting...”
Today’s Affirmation:
Thank you Universe for your guidance. I am thankful for the positive relationships in my life.
The word that “awakening” caught my attention and has been reappearing in many places:
awakening | noun 1. an act of waking from sleep. 2. an act or moment of becoming suddenly aware of something.
“Awakening” was the word a client used to describe her coaching experience...
I read quite a bit of Gay Hendricks work, and this morning the title of June 4 in his book, A Year of Living Consciously, was... you guessed it, AWAKENING.
There’s a lesson here... and as the stars align, I thought I'd share these thoughts:
We have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable...
I challenge you to stop buffering and make a connection. Connect with yourself, your feelings, and with others...
Do your research, homework and continue to learn and grow. Speak up, respectfully, and be unapologetic in your awesomeness....
Questions to ponder as you AWAKEN: ( from Gay Hendricks A Year of Living Consciously)
How do you wake up in the morning?
Are you easy to awaken?
Difficult?
Do you moan, groan, and complain?
Do you bounce out of bed with energy and enthusiasm?
Think about the way you awaken... You will learn something important about the way you face life in general.
How will you face this day?
...your choice... will you do anything differently...
What needs to change for you?
...How will you make it happen....
Knowledge is power. Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
