“…The game plan tells you what you want to happen... But the scoreboard tells what is happening.”— John C. Maxwell
Let’s take a moment to reflect on this...
Pause for just a second. Step away from the rush of emails, meetings, and tasks...
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly...Another breath in... and slowly exhale...One more breath in... exhale slowly...
Clear your mind, center yourself, and read the quote again.
How does it resonate with you right now?
Now, let’s break this down from a leadership perspective:
In the game of leadership, strategy is essential—but execution and measurement are where the true results lie. As leaders, it’s important to take a step back and ask yourself:
What’s the current “score” of your team’s performance?
Are your key metrics aligned with your vision and desired outcomes?
What adjustments can you make to ensure that you’re on track for success?
The landscape is always shifting. What worked yesterday may not work tomorrow. If your team is going to remain competitive and engaged, you need to continuously assess and adjust—not just plan and hope.
So, let me ask you:
What are you willing to do differently today to achieve a higher score tomorrow?
As leaders, we have a responsibility to not only set the vision but to inspire and motivate our teams to take action toward it. The question is:
How will you lead by example?
How will you empower your people to elevate their own performance?
Here’s a challenge for you: Have an open conversation with your team this week. Encourage them to reflect on their "score," set new goals, and then align their actions with those goals. Ask them:
How can we continuously improve?
What do we need to stop, start, or continue doing to achieve excellence?
By being intentional in your leadership approach and guiding others with clarity and purpose, you’ll create a ripple effect of success.
Remember, the scoreboard doesn’t lie—and neither should your leadership.
Let’s make this week one that counts.
You’ve got this.
