Wednesday Wisdom

Wednesday Wisdom: Trust the Step. Know Your Worth.
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
— Widely attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As September comes to a close, so does our month-long exploration of TRUST.
But perhaps trust was never about knowing exactly what comes next.
Perhaps trust is having enough confidence in yourself, your values, your experience, and your capacity to grow to take the next meaningful step—even when the rest of the staircase is unclear.
That is where WORTH enters the conversation.
As a coach, I often invite clients to consider the difference between needing certainty before moving and trusting themselves enough to move without certainty.
The International Coaching Federation’s current competencies emphasize Evoking Awareness and Facilitating Client Growth—helping clients explore their values and beliefs, generate their own possibilities, and translate insight into meaningful action. (ICF)
And self-worth matters here.
The American Psychological Association defines self-worth as seeing oneself as a valuable and capable person deserving of respect and consideration. (APA Dictionary)
So before we rush into October, PAUSE:
-Take a deep breath in…
-Hold…
-Now slowly release.
Ask yourself:
What have I learned about trusting myself this month?
Where am I waiting for certainty when I may already know enough to take the next step?
What changes when I stop asking, “Am I good enough?” and begin asking, “What becomes possible when I recognize my worth?”
For Leaders:
*Bring the conversation to your team. Ask:
Where might we be waiting for perfect clarity when we already have enough information—and enough trust in one another—to move forward?
In uncertain environments, leadership is not about pretending to have every answer.
Research on organizational trust continues to emphasize the importance of how leaders navigate uncertainty and create conditions where people can contribute, question, learn, and move forward together. (Harvard Business Review)
As we leave TRUST and enter WORTH, remember:
You do not need to see the entire staircase.
You do not need every answer.
And you do not have to earn your worth by having everything figured out.
Trust gave you the courage to take the step. Worth reminds you that you belong on the staircase.
You got this!
