Wednesday Wisdom | Acceptance: The Bridge to Forgiveness

“When you release the wants of your personality in order to accommodate and encourage others, you tune yourself to that person’s soul.”— Gary Zukav, The Seat of the Soul

In a world that often encourages judgment, comparison, and division, acceptance invites us into a different conversation.

As leaders, professionals, and human beings, our views, opinions, perceptions, and judgments are often reflections of our own experiences, beliefs, and assumptions. What we see in others can reveal valuable insights about ourselves.

This month, as we continue exploring the practice of forgiveness, consider the role of acceptance.

Acceptance does not mean agreement. It does not excuse harmful behavior. Rather, it creates space for understanding, accountability, humility, and growth.

From a coaching perspective, acceptance begins with awareness:

  • Accepting ourselves—our strengths, imperfections, lessons, and humanity.

  • Accepting others as they are, rather than as we wish them to be.

  • Remaining curious instead of certain.

  • Choosing understanding before judgment.

Every interaction presents an opportunity to learn.

  • See everyone as a teacher. What might they be revealing about you?

  • See everyone as a student. What wisdom, compassion, or grace might you offer?

Reflective Questions:

  1. What assumptions am I holding about myself or someone else that may no longer serve me?

  2. How might greater self-acceptance influence my leadership, relationships, or decision-making?

  3. Where could curiosity replace judgment this week?

  4. What would change if I viewed this person as a teacher rather than an obstacle?

As we navigate challenging times marked by uncertainty, division, and change, acceptance can become a powerful pathway to connection, trust, and transformation.

Remember: Forgiveness begins when acceptance opens the door.

In a world that asks us to choose sides, choose growth—because acceptance transforms what judgment never can.
