The holiday season is here...weather you celebrate or not. Can't avoid it. The Thanksgiving Turkey may not even be in the oven yet but retailers have already bombarded mailboxes, emails, and TV commercial space advertising holiday and Black Friday deals. It's the giving season, after all...
Question: How generous of a leader are you?
...Think about that for a moment... In your leadership role...
Where are you giving your time... your energy... your talent... your resources...your money..?
What are you currently loosing by holding on to it?
Take a deep breathe and sit with this question for a moment... exhale slowly... read it again and see if you can come up with an answer: What am I loosing by holding on to it....?
Generosity is the 9th quality in Maxwell's 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. What a perfect time to think about the impact and power generosity has on ones leadership.
10 Habits to Help You Become a More Generous Leader:
1. Be mindful of your attention. Make time to genuinely connect with people.
2, Share your gifts. Find a way to spread what you know.
3. Be liberal with your time. Slow down and be present. Time is the most precious gift you can give someone.
4. Show people you consider them important. Nothing goes further in building strong teams and organizations than for people to feel appreciated.
5. Stand up for your people. Show support and give assistance when needed individually or collectively. The yield is loyalty, trust, commitment, and positive morale
6. Be lavish with acknowledgements. Publicly celebrate every success as a group achievement.
7. Delegate. Delegating worthwhile work is a gift of development and growth for someone else.
8. Give opportunity. Serve others by helping them achieve their goals.
9. Lead with communication. Build trust by communicating openly and sharing information freely in every situation. Make sure people know what they need to know to be successful.
10. Look for opportunities to be generous and act on them. Give all you can, by all the means you can, to all the people you can, for as long as you can..
